Liaison interpreting… is it like interpreting for a negotiation?

Well, in part it is that so, however, we like to put is as an interpreting service without equipment —such as a transmitter-receiver or an interpreting booth with a console, — so that the interpreter stands in the middle of two or more parties, listens to what one party says in one language, interprets for the other party or parties, waits for their reaction or response and interprets back into the first language. As you have probably guessed, this is a face-to-face service.

This service allows us to cover events that may be public events like interviews with the press or public figures —such as when the Galician press interviewed Anatoli Karpov in Vigo with our help or when the programme Carne Cruda moved from Madrid to Vilagarcía de Arousa to interview Joe Dante, creator of Gremlins among many other titles, during the Festival de Cine Fantástico y de Cortometrajes, as you can see in the image below.

We also have clients and assignments where confidentiality is the key, hence bilateral or liaison interpreting is considered the best alternative. Whatever is spoken and the information conveyed will remain between the 3 parties —the speakers in each language and the interpreter who mediates between them. This is precisely the case in psychological interviews for international refugees applicants, when the Istanbul Protocol is carried out during a session with an asylum seeker, during audits in factories, industrial facilities or at the headquarters of large auditing firms. Everything that cannot pass through a machine, that should not be recorded because it is sensitive, confidential or personal data.

Tradurrutia understands the importance of all these aspects and that is why we sign confidentiality agreements with our clients to guarantee our discretion and that all the information handled will be kept safe… in the interpreter’s mind. Talk to us and tell us about your specific needs.
